How do I get my Learner Permit (Ls)?
- You must be at least 16 years or older and live in Victoria to Apply.
- Take the Knowledge Test and Eyesight test at VIC Roads
What is the Learner Permit Knowledge Test?
The Learner Permit Knowledge Test is a computer-based test which has 32 questions. The questions are based on four chapters of the ‘Road to Solo Driving’ handbook. You’ll have to book and complete the test at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.

How many questions are in the test?
The test is done on the computer and has 32 questions. You need to get at least 25 questions right to pass, which equals 78%. Your pass result will be valid for 12 months.
Is the test available in other languages?
Yes, the test is available in these languages:
Albanian, Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese (Mandarin), English, Macedonian, Persian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Eyesight Test
Good eyesight is essential for safe driving so when you go to sit your Learners Permit Test your eyesight will be tested so bring your corrective lenses to the test if you use any. This test usually takes between 5 – 10 minutes to complete and will test both your peripheral vision and ability to detect colour.
Road to Solo Driving Handbook
The ‘Road to Solo Driving’ handbook is published by VicRoads. This booklet contains every road rule which will be have to be read and understood if you want to pass the Learner Permit test and hold a driver’s licence in Victoria.
